What Causes Increased Anxiety And Stress When On Effexor?

I have been taking Effexor for post menopausal anxiety for at least a year. This has helped me a great deal. However in the past month, I have heightened anxiety - problems sleeping, feeling stressed (there has been increased stress at work and at home) - still taking my medicine every day - is this unusual to have a change where it doesn t appear to be working anymore?

Hello thanks for asking from HEALHT CARE MAGIC for your health related queries

You are on Effexor since last one year and were responding to the drug with good symptom control. Now your symptoms of anxiety and stress have relapsed and you are having increased stress at work and at home. As per my opinion the reason for such symptoms could be either insufficient doses of venlafaxine or reemergence of new anxiety symptoms. In such case you can discuss with your psychiatrist to add some other medicine for symptomatic control like Propranolol. The medicine will help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and will result in improvement. Other option is to increase the dose of drug and this will help in control of symptoms.
