What Causes Imbalance In The Body While Suffering From Diabetes?

i ve experience a loss of balance the last couple of days for brief periods. I m 67 years old and have been diabetic for 54 years- type 1. 2 days ago I had a reaction at less than 52, probably much lower since my wife gave me some OJ and a packet of aopple sauce by the time I tested it. EMS came, but recovered fast and they left. My question is 2 fold. could this shock have triggered this loss of balance, and what do you reccomend? I also experience this vertigo this past winter when I was experiencing some hypoglycemic episodes- I have begun a new regimen and this present episode is not normal.

Hello dear,

Thank you for using HCM.
I read your query and understand your concern.

I think you are suffering from peripheral neuropathy that among many problems gives even loss of balance and coordination .Consistently keeping blood sugar within a target range can help prevent or delay the progression of diabetic neuropathy and may even improve some of the symptoms you already have.
Keep blood glucose between 100 and 140 mg/dL, or 5.6 and 7.8 mmol/L, for people age 60 and older, or those who have other medical conditions, such as heart, lung or kidney disease

To help slow nerve damage:
Follow your doctor's recommendations for good foot care
Keep your blood pressure under control
Follow a healthy-eating plan
Get plenty of physical activity
Maintain a healthy weight
Stop smoking
Avoid alcohol or, if drinking is allowed, drink only in moderation
Best regards
