What Causes Hunching And A Protruding Back?

My granddaughter is 8 months old. She sits up but not straight and hunches over. She won t pick her head up when on her belly or push up on her arms and doesn t roll over. She interacts when she is laying on her back but doesn t when she is in any sitting position or being held. She has vision problems that she wears glasses for. Her eyes are -5.25 with astigmatisms. Since getting the glasses, she seems to see better but her interactions are minimal. It is very hard to keep her attention and eye contact is minimal except when she is laying on her back and I am standing over her. When I do get her attention, she smiles and seems to enjoy the interactions. She can hold rattles but doesn t show a lot of interest in anything. Mostly, she puts the toys in her mouth and licks or sucks on them. Her lower spine protrudes outward. When she was around 4 months old, she would try and stand when held up but now she does not try to stand or really put weight on her legs. She is very quiet, cries only for 15 to 20 seconds and is very calm. She loves music and interacts when she is laying on her back but not much when she is in any sitting position or being held. For the most part, she seems a little behind but my concern is that she seems to be regressing with her movements. She has an appointment with an orthopedic specialist at the end of May. Is there any other things her doctor should be looking at?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking.
I can understand your concerns.
You grand daughter defiantly has developmental delay. Has she lost any other milestone other than trying to stand on her feet? If so then you must also rule out neuro degenerative disorders for her. I would suggest you get a MRI of the brain to diagnose the cause of her developmental delay.
As for her social interaction she needs visual stimulation program for visual fixation and following and then responding.
You should start physiotherapy for her for her head control and body control.
I hope I have helped you.
Thank you.
