What Causes Hives While On Aleve?

Hello, I had to go to the ER last night after taking one Aleve gel cap. They told me the gel caps act much faster than the pill forms. I had severe hives with welts all over my body. Is this a common allergic reaction or something more rare? The ER did not consider it severe because I was still able to breathe and swallow.

Hi.
As per your case history you are having urticaria.
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 2 months.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid, hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
