What Causes High Fever In An Infant?

My 6 month old baby has got high fever couple of days back and doctor suggested to use p125 and after 2 days doc again added antibiotic cefixine but fever is still fluctuating. Now doc suggested Meftal syrup 3 times for 1 day. I am really scared that this fever is not going away, what could be the reason for this type of fever?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting yoru query on HCM
I have read and understood your concern
Fever in an infant may be caused by viral, bacteria or parasitic infection.Persistence of fever on anti-pyretics and antibiotics may suggest two things:
-Germ in cause not responding to the antibiotic
-Or fever may be caused by a parasite like malaria parasite if in a risk zone
I will suggest you try the following:
*Physical measures to control fever like light dresses and application of wet compresses
*Continue with anti-pyretic and antibiotics as prescribed by your Doctor
If symptoms persist, you see the Doctor for reevaluation and tests like malaria test and a blood culture if need be.Your Doctor may also consider IV anti-pyretics and antibiotics if symptoms persist
Hope this will help. You may write back if more concerns
Best regards
