Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 21. Seen today with 103.1 fever and sore throat. Flu, strep and mono came back negative. Blood sent to be cultured. Strep or mono suspected. My question- he seems to be breathing fast as he s sleeping. 29 breaths/minute. He just vomited, then showered and fell asleep. Is this cause for concern?
He is having acute pharyngitis infection condition. Until reports come, give him antibiotic like Cefixime or Co-amoxiclav. Decongestant like Cetirizine can be prescribed. Cold sponging is useful. For fever Paracetamol SOS is given. Investigate with CBC and chest x-ray, if needed.
Fast respiratory rate is because of the infection. Salt water gargle to be done. For vomiting Domperidone can be given. Neck stiffness should be checked. Consult physician for examination and discuss all these.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Parth Goswami
