My brother under went prostate cancer surgery on 32 days ago in Sri Lanka. His pas value came down to .02 fro 12 after the surgery. Two weeks ago he complained of high fever and other complications. Now he was admitted again and undergone another surgery to remove prostatic abscesses. Is this due to a poor surgery or otherwise? Thanks Buwaneka Abeysinghe YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Surgery is a procedure where everything's needs to be sterile including operation theater surgeon instrument and staff. There are about 10 to 20 % chances of postoperative infection. So we can't tell where was the problem and why that has occurred. That abscess has to drain and take antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
