What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Post Menstrual Cycle?

Hie, I noticed I was bleeding a week after my period last month I went to a gynecologist who proscribed duphaston that I took for 10 days, pliz note that im still bleeding even after my period which came & was very heavy. My main question is when will the bleeding stop coz it s a month now since it started & it is so frustrating now coz I can t be confident having sex with my partner All I want is to get back to normal

Heavy vaginal bleeding during and after menses could be caused by many medical conditions.Some of these medical problems are: Growth in the uterus or cervix, hormonal imbalances, miscarriage, change in medications, cancer, stress, Pelvic inflammatory diseases...With all these causes, only a physical examination by a Doctor or a Gynecologist and some work-ups can reveal the cause.Duphaston is a progestative well indicated in menstrual disorders and other female gynecological problems.Persistence of symptoms on Duphaston means a more serious investigation is needed.I will advise you go back to the Gynecologist for re-evaluation.A pelvic ultrasound and if need be, a hormonal work-up and infectious work-ups may be done.In the meantime, a uterotonic like ergometrine may help reduce bleeding
