What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding?

Good afternoon. I turned 47 years old in December of last year. I have never had irregular (excessive flow) menstrual cycle until about 3 weeks ago. I have no pain, its the occasional excessive menstrual flow and I am having my menstrual cycle now for about 2 1/2 weeks. Are these symptoms more than likely affiliated with perimenopause? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You first need to tell me, when did you achieve your menopause because when women do achieve menopause, the menstrual cycle becomes irregular initially before it actually stops.

However, if it does not stop in a few days, then you need to go to a local doctor who might prescribe you oral contraceptives Pills (OCP) for a few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purnima Sharma
