What Causes Heavy Bleeding With Clots During Pregnancy?

I am between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant and having heavy bleeding, including clots of tissue. It has been going on for 2 days now. When I saw my dr today we saw the sac but no baby or heartbeat yet. The dr says the sac has not dropped but he cant tell if it is a healthy pregnancy yet. What could be going on?

Hi,
I understand your query.
Heavy bleeding at 5-6 weeks of pregnancy, suggests abortion( either threatend or inevitable).Your USG report today shows a sac without fetus or heart beats...
Normally heart beats are seen by 5-6 weeks of pregnancy, One can expect it's absence in delayed conception BUT fetal parts are evident by 5 weeks ( a sign of conception).
* So an intact empty sac without fetal pole or heart beat at 5-6 weeks , in my opinion indicates blighted ovum or chemical pregnancy being evacuated naturally ( that's why the bleeding.)
You should repeat USG scan after a week to confirm the diagnosis & go for surgical evacuation ( in case the process is not completed naturally by the time )/ In case of excessive bleeding medical or surgical evacuation should be done.
Thanks.
