What Causes Heavy Bleeding After Using Mirena IUD?

I am 48 and had the mirena coil fitted 5 weeks ago but am spotting every day with some heavier bleeding other days. After intercourse I bleed for a day or 2 I was on the combined pill for 26 years, gynaecologist told me I was too old to be still on it and put me on the mini pill, had spotting on that so suggested the mirena. Told me to take the mini pill as well for 3 months along with the mirena to help with bleeding. Have no other symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello

The heavy bleeding could either be due to the Mirena itself or even possibly due to the menopause that is soon approaching. I would recommend a revisit to your doctor to consider a change in the advise and even possibly removal of the Mirena as you don't really need it.

Best wishes
