What Causes Heat Intolerance, Lightheadedness And Tingling Feet And Hands While On Losartan?

I am a 56 year old female. I take 50mg Losartin daily for high blood pressure. I have taken this for just over a year now. I have, it seems, almost an over- sensitivity to heat. Very little exertion in hot weather makes me light- headed, tingling feet and hands, almost unable to function. In addition I get headaches....horrible headaches when I have a couple drinks. Is this all related to the medicine?

Hello,

Lightheadedness, dizziness or weakness may be a side effect of Losartan. when you are taking this medicine you should regularly check your vitals (BP, blood glucose), they should be normal. Stay well hydrated, sometimes dehydration may cause such symptoms. Maintain your body electrolyte system at all cost.

Heat intolerance, headache may be due to the menopause phase in which you are, take vitamin E rich diet, you can also take its supplements. Tingling feet and hands are indicative of developing peripheral neuropathy. You are suggested to visit a neurologist, get nerve conduction tests and all required imaging tests done.

Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and your clinical condition. In the meantime, you can take vitamin B6, B12 rich food or supplements.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
