What Causes Heart Murmurs In A Child?
my son went today for his 3 year well being check up today and his doctor is sending us to get an eco done. he is 31 lbs and 3'2.5 tall and for the first time they took his bp and it was 88/50 is it normal for a toddler to be sent for such a test and why are they just hearing this heart murmur

Hello. thank you for your question. heart murmurs are very common in children and, in most cases, normal. It is not abnormal for a murmur to be first diagnosed at this age while the child's heart is growing. It is standard procedure to have a newly diagnosed murmur evaluated as a precaution. However, the overwhelming majority of cases are normal, or "innocent", murmurs.
