What Causes Heart Flutters Sensation And Urge To Cough?
I ve been experiencing a fluttery, spasm-like feeling near my heart on and off for the past 4 days. Only lasts a second, no pain, no other symptoms besides very mild cough. Should I be concerned? In case it s relevant: I have moderate scoliosis and generalized anxiety. Thanks!
Heart rhythm can be affected by anxiety and it might be playing a role especially because your symptoms last so little and you have no chest pain or other symptoms. Still it might be safer to see your doctor and have your lungs and heart examined and maybe an ECG to rule out other important conditions.
It the examination is normal then anxiety might be considered and depending on how much it affects you the doctor might decide to prescribe tablets to help with it, generally in the class of SSRI like sertraline or citalopram.
Sometimes counseling and psychotherapy might be helpful as well. Having a healthy and active lifestyle with regular exercise, regular going out and meeting friends and family, being involved in activities you enjoy, avoiding caffeine in coffee or energy drinks, avoiding smoking and alcohol or drugs will be found helpful as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
