What Causes Hearing Loss And Pressure In The Ears?

Hi. Woke up this morning with a feeling of hearing loss like when you drive to high altitude or descend. I’ve been holding my nose and blowing to pop them but hasn’t helped much. I and a moderate to heavy drinker, 44 year old female. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query you have symptoms of hearing loss and pressure in the ears which could be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction, very loud noise exposure, ear infection and due to nerve impairment.

I would suggest you consult ENT specialist for proper examination. The doctor may order CT scan, blood test, examination with an otoscope.

The Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin, anti-inflammatory medications. Avoid exposure to loud noises.

Maintain cleanliness of the ear canal and avoid excessive mobile use from that side with touching and pricking ears.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
