What Causes Headaches Along With Nausea And Sore Throat?

My 13 year old daughter has been feeling bad for several months. We ve been to several doctors and had her checked for mono, strep and flu each time. Her symptoms are: headache, nausea and sore throat. Never has fever. She complains every day. Today she has had a very bad headache all day and says she feels nauseated and dizzy. I checked her blood sugar and it is 145. My older daughter was diagnosed 3 years ago with type 1 diabetes. She had also complained of feeling sick for months before she was actually diagnosed with an A1C of 12. I m just curious if I should have my 13 year old s A1C checked. She doesn t have the other classic symptoms (thirst, weight loss and urinating) but neither did my oldest daughter until right before she was diagnosed.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I just wanted to know if the RBS done was on fasting or postprandial, i.e. with in few hours after taking meal. If it was after meal, then this looks to be normal and I don't think getting HbA1c would add a lot. However, the persistent symptoms should not be ignored and other reasons for such symptoms should be explored. I personally would like to see an ENT surgeon to know if it's chronic sinusitis or allergic condition or any other. If everything is fine, then an internal specialist would need to assess her in detail. Other option would be if a neurologist sees her, for her headache and dizziness, it will well annd good. If still in doubt you can repeat the sugar on fasting, i.e. 7 hours after eating and postprandial, i.e. 2 hours after a meal. If the former reading is over 100 or the later is over 160, we can think about doing HbA1c. If the reading you had is on fasting is high, then getting HbA1c is probably necessary.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
