Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. Symptoms like headache, fever,
stiff neck,
vomiting are most commonly due to "meningitis". It can also be due to common
viral fever. The difference in both is - meningitis is dangerous while viral fever is a mild disease.
To differentiate between two, full evaluation of symptoms is needed
: Meningitis presents as fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, sometimes fits/focal deficit, deteriorating consciousness. It could be due to viral or bacterial infection.
For treatment, you should consult ER. The doctor might advise blood investigations like
WBC count,
blood culture and brain fluid study (
lumbar puncture) to detect infection. Treatment includes
paracetamol to treat fever, antibiotics like
ceftriaxone,
amikacin,
metronidazole to treat infection. It requires hospitalisation. Treatment duration is approximately 14 - 21 days.
: Viral fever usually presents as fever,
body ache, weakness in body, running nose and sometimes above mentioned symptoms. Patient usually recovers on its own in 5 - 7 days. Usually symptomatic treatment is given like paractamol to treat fever
increase fluid intake
protein and vitamin rich diet to enhance immunity
Hope it will help you. Still no relief, you ask them to
consult doctor as soon as possible.
Take care. Thanks.
