What Causes Headache And Soreness In The Lower Back In A 14 Year Old Girl?

HI there, My daughter is 14 years old, an athlete and physically fit. Today is the third day she is complaining of bad headaches, sore lower back, out of breath when using the stairs and, not able to sleep. The first day she had a high fever and now it is just low grade. Do you think this is just a virus or something more serious? Meningitus keeps coming to mind. Would appreciate your thoughts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a viral infection. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication to relieve the fever and the headache. I also suggest to rest. If the symptoms continue for more than three days you should visit your doctor for a physical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
