What Causes Headache And Black Spots In Vision While Standing Up?

My 14 year old son played in a football game last night in 90 degree heat. He complained of a headache after his game. This morning, he still had a headache, I gave him Tylenol and sent him to school. He came home, head still hurting, and says his eyes black out when he stands up. Should I do more than just Tylenol?

Greetings.
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Tylenol as you may know is just a pain killer to relieve the symptoms. So just tylenol alone will just relieve the pain for a while but the over all condition of you son will now resolve.

The history of playing in 90 degree of heat points to a probability of heat exhaustion. This causes dehydration and general well being is temporarily disturbed due to excessive heat.

The first thing you should do is get him plenty of fluids to drink. Simple water and ORS(oral rehydration salt) sachet in 1 litre of water should be given to return all the lost fluid. Secondly he should to bath with cool water in order to bring the body temperature gradually down.

The black out your son is experiencing is due loss of too much water . When you replenish that with fluids , with time he will recover and stop having these blackouts.

I hope the answer was helpful. In case you need any further assistance feel free to contact us in writing .
