My husband felt a lump on his neck yesterday after playing tennis. It is kind of a hard lump, but not near his ear or lymph nodes under the ear, it's a little off toward the center as opposed to the ear. Went to VA today and they want to schedule a bisopy. Am concerned because husband had melonoma skin cancer 5 years ago on the back, but right shoulder area and this is on left side of neck. We are anxious thinking cancer. He also just had extensive dental work (implants) upper and lower done 1 month ago and was in the dental chair ALL DAY on his back. Could he have experienced a lump or cycst.
1.A lump with no symptoms of pain near the ear on the neck - possible cause could be sebaceous cyst and next possible cause could be lymph nodal enlargement. 2.Lymoh nodal enlargement can be seen in the infection / inflammation / malignancy any where in the body. In your case keeping history in mind malignancy can not be ruled out - with out investigation. 3.Sebaceious cyst seen due to ductal dilatation due to obstruction. 4.Even before the BIOPSY an ultrasound will be helpful to evaluate the nature of the lesion ( solid / cystic ) and its source and extensions. 5.In case of mass lesion an FNAC - fine needle aspiration cytology / BIOPSY for cell identification. Good luck.
