What Causes Hard Lump Near The Posterior Wall Of The Pharynx?
Hello. It s the first time I use this so I am not really sure what to expect. I am male, 21 years old. And I have a question concerning a hard lump I found when palpating the posterior wall of the pharynx. It s round and well limited but really hard like bone, just behind the uvula. I found it on palpation. On inspection i can t really see it. But it s a bit whitish in colour. What could it be? I have history with bacterial tonsillitis (really big palatine tonsils), sinnusitis and posterior drop. Recently, a few months back I have found my tongue to be a little bit rough on the back and kind of cracked.
The hard lump behind uvula indicates possible enlargement of adenoids from various causes, most common one being gram positive bacterial infection of upper respiratory tract. However, if you can provide a high resolution photo pic of the lump with open mouth view, it is best recommended to get better view of the possible cause and management guidelines accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
