What Causes Hard Knot Behind Ear On The Bone?

Hi, I m 32 and I woke up this morning with a hard knot behind my ear on the bone. I ve heard this could be an inflamation of the lyph nodes. I have been taking a lot of medication lately and wondered if it could be some kind of toxin build up or something or if I should get it checked out. It s hard and painful.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Hard, painful hard lump behind ear can be due to the following reasons:
- Lymph node as you have mentioned
- Infected sebaceous cyst

Yes, this should be better examined by a surgeon.
- Ultrasound of the affected area
- FNAC if required

This will give the proper diagnosis and thus allow a proper management as per the diagnosis. You may require an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicines for 5 - 7 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
