What Causes Grinding Sound In Neck Upon Rotating The Head?

Hi, I have a squishy, grinding sound in my neck when I rotate my head from left to right. It appears to come from the right backside of my neck, towards my right ear, maybe even slighty in my right ear. Do you have any idea what it is that is causing this sound?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thankyou for posting your question in HCM.

The grinding sound you are hearing is from your cervical spine which consists of 7 bones called veterbrae. These are coming into contact with each other as you move your head which is causing the sound you are hearing. Do to advancing age the intervertebral disc maybe collapsing or degenerating causing this pronounced sound.
I would advice you get an X-ray or CT scan of the cervical spine at your convenience.
