Hi, I m having a gout attack that x-rays show that it is gout and yet the lab blood test show the uric acid level is within the normal levels. How can that be? If there is enough uric acid to form the crystals wouldn t that show up in the blood?

What Causes Gout Attacks?
Hello, 90% of gout cases relate to the over production of uric acid via purine metabolism and those are idiopathic cases without reasons. 10 % of gout cases corelate with the inadequate clearance through renal tubules secondary to systemic disorder. Birefringence test with fluorescence is diagnostic for the gout when performed over the synovial fluid from the joint space Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
