What Causes Frequent Urination During Menstrual Cycle?

I supposedly came on my period 4 days ago, the 1st day was heavy, the 2nd day was kinda light with small blood clots n the 3rd n so far 4th day only shows when I wipe and its a brownish reddish color and Im constantely peeing every 30 to 40 mins with semi sharp pains in the top part of my stomach. Constipated one min. loose bowels the next. Ive been off the birth control Mirena for about 4yrs and never had a problem with my periods other than being off a couple of day after it was due or a couple of days before. My periods are normally slightly heavy and lasts 5dys.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I can understand your concern and will try my best to advise you.
During menstrual period your body releases prostaglandins which act on your uterus and starts its contraction which is the cause of pain during menstrual bleeding; experienced by >50% of post-pubertal girls. And the most probable explanation for the increased frequency of urination is the irritation of urinary bladder while the uterus is contracting. So to decrease the contractions and pain you can take Tab. (Mefenamic acid 500 mg + dicyclomine 20 mg) TID for 2-3 days as required.
Hope this helps you.
Regards.
