Hi, I am inquiring for my son who is is a recovery center and do not have free access to go to see a doctor but he has been having this problem for the last 3 weeks, Excessive urinating, dry mouth and excessive thirst and has lost 20 pounds because of lack of eating because he feels sick if he eats. We do have diebetes running rapid in our family , so I want to know if this sounds like it could be the reason for his problems and what he needs to help him.

Hello,

Most commonly dry mouth, excessive thirst, frequent urination, and weight loss along with a tendency of diabetes in your family can be due to increased blood sugar levels leading to diabetes. As the symptoms of frequent urination, excess thirst, weight loss, and dry mouth are most commonly seen in case of diabetes mellitus, therefore you should consult a general physician or a diabetologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get blood sugar levels CA both fasting and post meal along with glycosylated hemoglobin levels HbA1c checked.

In case if the blood sugar levels are higher than normal range then you can be advised oral hypoglycemic drugs to bring the blood sugar levels to normal range. Along with it dietary modifications like curbing intake of refined carbohydrates, doing moderate workout, and taking appropriate rest and avoiding stress can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
