My Daughter is 21 and has My tonic Muscular Dystrophy. She has been getting Lockjaw more frequently lately. What is the cause and best treats for it. What type of Doctor treats this. Same thing happened with and older brother of mine that has since passed. He also had MMD.

Hi,

Hope you are doing good.

I am very sorry to hear about your brother and and your daughter. I know it's very concerning to deal with.

In your query you have mentioned that your daughter has "tonic" Dystrophy. As the name suggests, it will increase the contraction of the muscles leading to symptoms accordingly. If it increases the contraction of muscles in and around the face, it can cause lockjaw.

Usually Neurologist specialised in treating these types of diseases will take care of your daughter. Along with good physiotherapy and exercise it will ease the symptoms.

Hope you understood. Any further queries, free to message me anytime.

Regards,

Dr. Arveen A Sulfath
