What Causes Frequent Cardiac Arrests?

I have been very tired for the last three weeks, then I have had chest pressure and pain in my arm. I have high blood pressure when I am in pain according to the doctor. The ER gave me a nitro under my tongue and after 2 and half minutes my heart stopped and then did compressions, and then they had me do a a cat scan and some thing went wrong and my heart stopped again and paddles was used to bring me back. Now the doctors are saying may be tumors in stomache so looks like more test and they still have no idea.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Cardiac arrest is a serious issue and needs to be investigated before it happens again.

Cardiac arrest has many causes. Like Myocardial ischemia (Heart attack), heart conduction problems, some congenital heart problems and one of the most important cause is electrolyte imbalances like potassium.

To investigate the problem ECG is the first step to be taken. It will tell us if there is a heart attack or if there is any block in your heart conduction.

Then your electrolyte levels need to be checked so that correction can be done in that regards.

If myocardial ischemia has been identified then angiography should be done urgently so that angioplasty may be done to save the heart. Echocardiography is also needed to see of any wall of the heart issues, valvular problems or any clot inside the heart.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Talal Hussain, General & Family Physician
