What Causes Foul Smelling Breath After Treating Bronchitis?
Hi doctor, I had bronchitis about 5 months ago and ever since then my breath has smelled like poop. The smell is very strong and I don t know what to do. I brush my teath twice a day and I use mouthwash and a tounge cleaner, Nothing works. My flem smells like poop also and it seems like I m always accumulating flem and I think that s why I have the bad breath. Could this be post nasal drip?
Foul smelling breath is commonly due to bacterial sinusitis. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT. Get X-ray PNS done and other blood tests and investigations needed to detect the pathology causing you discomfort. In the meantime, take steam inhalation 3-4 times a day, it will help to loosen the mucus in the nasal passage, lungs and throat. Taking a course of oral Bromohexine (mucolytic) is helpful and will reduce your symptoms. However, get clinically assessed and treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
