What Causes Food To Get Stuck In The Throat Along With Hiccups?

I am a 55 year old male, smoker, lately food has been getting caught in my throat, I get the hiccups all the time when eating, and sometimes I have to force myself to throw up to remove the food.. I also find myself at times out of nowhere gasping for air

Hi welcome to HCM....

You are chronic smoker ...
Smoking can affect lower esophageal sphincter tone and gastroesophageal reflux can be present ..

Second hiatus hernia also has to be ruled out ....

So your detail physical examination , auscultation needs to be done for further work up...

If needed investigation done with endoscopy and USG like investigation.....
If auscultation suspicious chest x ray can be done ...

For acid reflux omeprazole can be given ...
