What Causes Fluttering Sensation In Left Buttock With Stabbing Pain In Thigh?

Hello: I am scheduled for an MRI this coming Monday. For approximately nine months now, I have had a fluttering sensation in my left buttocks and ongoing sharp stabbing left thigh pain throughout the day and waking me up at night. My mother was diagnosed with MS at the age of 70. I am now 52 and wondering if this could possibly be warning signs. I am very athletic. I play hockey, golf and work out but my left leg does seem considerably weaker than the right. Should I be concerned. I visited the doctor today and he prescribed 50mg of Lyrica BID and Ibuprophen. Thank you for you time. Oh yes, I am also a female.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Though MS is a cause of abnormal sensations in the body there are also other causes as well.
This means that one of these may be contributing to your symptoms.

Some of the other causes are: (1) trauma eg arthritis or any changes to the spine can cause compression of nerves in the affected areas, causing your symptoms to occur

(2) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(3)diabetes
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)exposure to toxins
(6)side effect of medication
(7)idiopathic- in some cases the cause is not found
(8)infection eg shingles
(9)some hormonal or autoimmune diseases

The imaging may or may not show the cause of the abnormal sensations.
Blood tests may also be needed eg vitamin levels, screening for diabetes, liver function tests, kidney tests, complete blood count

I hope this helps
