What Causes Fluctuating Body Temperature?

Yes I hope so, my husband has these symptoms of very serious chill in his body, then the hots, and also maintains what he describes as like a scorch to the index fingers and thumbs. He went to urgent care and they gave him iv because he was dehydrated, and prescribed him prednisone. No antibiotic was given. His voice became weak and he is tired all the time. He did get better, for a couple of days. Now the same symptoms are back. Of course he is away taking care of his elderly mother.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Fluctuating body temperature can be because of variety of reasons. However, in your husband's case, it looks more like thyroid disturbances.

Is there a family history of thyroid disturbances in your husband's family? If yes, then there are high chances that he might have a thyroid problem. I suggest you to do his TFTs that are thyroid function tests and consult a physician for the same.

All the best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prashant Gohil
