Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom and my brother have hypothyroidism. My brothers is Hashimotos. I have had my thyroid tested several times. It has slowly crept up over the years. I have had two high TSH levels and then a third test shows it in the normal range. Then again, a high TSH level and then another in the normal range. My doctor has stated he needs to see 3 high levels in a row in order to diagnose me. Is there anything to be said for fluctuating TSH levels? In my mind, this shows my body is out of whack, but I am not a doctor. Any thoughts? I also suffer from 7-9 migraines a month and have gained 50 lbs in the past 3 years.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Fluctuating tsh levels could be seen specifically in genetically predisposed persons triggered by certain conditions like seasonal variations, herbal supplements interefereing with tsh levels, certain food like cauliflower, beetroot consumption.
You should be cautious be careful about iodine uptake &go on checking tsh levels every 6 months &more frequently if it gets raised to confirm hypothyroidism.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
