General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Very likely your son is having a viral infection. Viral infections may affect the respiratory system and the gastrointestinal system at the same time and cause diarrhea and vomiting with symptoms of respiratory mucosa like nose bleeds.

I would recommend that you make sure your son is well hydrated by using oral rehydration solutions to replace fluids and electrolytes and also try to avoid Ibuprofen or other medications in its group as sometimes these may increase nosebleeds. He can take paracetamol for fever and pain. Using some local Vaseline in the nose or antibiotic ointment like mupirocine may help keep the nose moisturized and reduce bleeding. Try to avoid forceful blowing of the nose.

When bleeding happen he should keep the head in neutral position (not bend forward or backwards) and tighten the nostrils for at least 15 minutes (he should not release it to see if the bleeding stopped).

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
