What Causes Fever And Blisters In An Infant?

My 22 month old has been feeling under the weather today. This morning my husband noticed 2 pimples on his bottom that suddenly appeared. Getting him out of the bath he now has about a dozen and have spread up to his belly. He had a slight fever today. Sound common?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Can you send a picture of the lesion? Does the pimples contains clear fluid or pus? Probably this suggests a viral exanthem, as seen in HFMD (hand-foot-mouth disease). As lesions started down and is ascending up, chickenpox is less likely. Such cases just needs symptomatic and supportive treatment only- give acetaminophen for fever, and antihistamine like Hydroxizine if the lesions are itchy. Usually child gets better in 3-5 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
