What Causes Fever Along With Cough And Runny Nose?

I have had a cold for 6 days now. Usually 3 days max for me. I do not have a fever but I m coughing up mucus and my nose is constantly running as well as watering eyes. In the morning coughing is very painful but after a cup of tea not so bad. Dose this sound like early stages of pneumonia?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you should definitely consult pulmonologist to rule out pneumonia and bronchitis because both of them are common after viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI - common cold). So get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest X- ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).Chest X-ray is needed to rule out lung infection. PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis. You may need higher antibiotics or inhaled bronchodilators (Formoterol or Salmeterol) based on these reports.

Hope I have answered your query.
