What Causes Feeling Of Something Stuck In Throat And Difficulty Breathing?

I have been experiencing hoarseness with no Sore throat or pain, taste of blood in throat /mouth, had episodes of blood smears in vomit and sputum, feels like a knot in throat when I swallow, and chest pain/ tightness making it uncomfortable to breath at times especially when lying down ... Almost like I can t get a deep enough breath in. This has been going on for a few weeks, the hoarseness comes n goes but has definitely made a significant difference in my voice! I have gastroparesis and reflux so it maybe associated, but sounds like cancer!! I feel like I m being a hypochondriac, do u have any insight or do I just need to go to my dr?? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing something stuck in the throat. You are also having difficulty in breathing. You have difficulty in swallowing and have hoarseness. Since you are having recurrent hoarseness of voice you are suggested to give voice rest. Avoid talking, do reading or hear some good music.

To avoid hurting your throat mucosa you should take liquid food or semisolid food. Take adequate quantity of water or fluids so that you are well hydrated and the throat is not dry. Dry throat will trigger discomfort. Taking antacids or PPIs, one stat when needed will help you to get relieve of something being stuck in the throat. It is due to acid reflux/GERD.

Get clinically examined by an ENT, you are suffering from laryngitis (chronic), you may need antibiotics (Augmentin) and analgesics. Get the required blood and imaging tests done, so that treatment can be started at the earliest and to rule out any developing malignancy. You should stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
