What Causes Fatty Stool In A Child?

My daughter is almost 4. 4 times now I have noticed oil in the toilet when she has had a bowel movement. She doesn t like many foods and it is difficult to get her to eat any veggies or meat. She likes fruit and carbs. She has never had McDonalds and we stear clear of fast food but she has chips and veggie stiks. I m very concerned with the grease/oil I ve seen lately.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Suggestive of steatorrhea or "fat in the stool."

From the brief history given in your query I am of the opinion that your daughter is suffering from some sort of fat malabsorption due to lack of digestive enzymes from her pancreas and gallbladder.

She needs to be evaluated by a pediatrician to rule out diseases of the pancreas (like Cystic fibrosis), gallbladder, liver or intestine (like Celiac disease), etc.

Hope this will help her in detecting the exact cause and treatment accordingly.

I find this answer helpful
