My husband s just started on Keppra two days ago 1/2 tab 500 mg for 7 days and increas to 1/2 day twice a day for 7 days and then 1/2 ta b in the am and 1 whole tab at bedtime. The problem he has think in small fiber neuannropathy. This MD took him off his Neurontin which he had been taking for a while but not working. Now after 2 days on this med he is very tired, in pain, and experiencing nausea? Should we try to get by to this Md or is this normal?
The side effect profile of Levetiracetam include lethargy, fatigue, nausea. If persistent beyond a period of 4-5 days, you should consult his neurologist. Till that time, it is essential to maintain his hydration with plenty of liquids and addition of PPI as Omeprazole on empty stomach will help to relieve the nausea component.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
