What Causes Fatigue And Excessive Sleepiness After Suffering From Pneumonia?

I was released from the hospital one week ago with pneumonia. I am home now and am no longer on antibiotics. However, I a extremely tired and want to sleep all the time. I am 74 years old and was told that my pneumonia was quite serious, requiring seven days of hospitalization. My doctor told me it may take one to two months to get back to normal. Thanks for your input.

Hello,

Pneumonia is usually a complication of cold or flu, when the illness lodges in the lungs.

If your pneumonia is caused by a virus, the symptoms will be flu-like for the first few days: dry cough, fever, headache, shaking chills, extreme fatigue, a poor appetite, and muscle pain and weakness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
