What Causes Fatigue Along With Headache And Poor Appetite In A Child?
Hi, I m concerned about my 7 year old son. He has been tired and sluggish for many days now; 2 weeks-ish. No congestion, no fevers that I have noticed. He plays for a little while, but can t keep up with peers and just doesn t want to do much besides lay on the couch, which is totally uncharacteristic for him. He also has a very poor appetite (uncharacteristic) and complains of a headache that feels more like a bad bruise (his words) and that the front of his neck hurts. Thoughts?
Each of these symptoms ALONE- fatigue, poor appetite, and headache- has multiple causes. Let's consider diseases where ALL three symptoms can occur together.
-depression
-home/school worries(like bullying or a difficult teacher)
-drugs
-insufficient sleep
-thyroid/adrenal gland problems
-chronic tonsillitis
-malignant disease(rarely)
Two weeks has been long enough without other symptoms to have watched him at home. Now take him to his pediatrician as soon as possible!
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Arnold Zedd, Pediatrician
