Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband 89 years old, passes out for several seconds, while having a bowel movement. It has happened three times in the year. His eyes get glassy, and he does not recognized me. I had to call the paramedics once, they told me it wasn't a stroke. They said he had to be checked at the hospital. He was discharged the same day. I was not told what was wrong.

What Causes Fainting Upon Passing Motion?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. He may be suffering from defecation syncope. Other possibilities like anemia or thrombocytopenia or infections or cardiac problem etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid stress during defecation. Please consult your physician, he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
