What Causes Excessive Sweating With Swelling In Legs Post Gallbladder Removal Surgery?

A friend of mine just had his Diseased Gall Bladder removed two weeks ago after being sick for over a month . He recently has been having night sweats several times a night soaking his clothes. Also swelling in his feet and legs that comes and goes. He had his blood tested for infection and they said there is none. Do you have any thoughts on this . Recommendations. Also, he is 65 years old.

Hello. The most probable causes for the 2 main symptoms enlisted above are as follows:
Swelling of the feet and legs: This can be due to low protein in the blood called as Hypoproteinemia. Low protein is quit common in elderly people above 60 years of age due to poor protein intake as well as increase muscle catabolism leading to decrease in the total body protein and Hypoproteinemia. Combined to this is the long standing diseased state (about a month or more) and disturbance in digestion and absorption of food due to lack of bile that will add on to low protein intake by the body. Hypoproteinemia causes swelling of the feet and legs that comes and goes along with periods of physical inactivity and physical activity, respectively.
Episodes of night sweats: This can be again due to lack of sufficient dietary intake of calories during dinner. If the Gall Bladder surgery is not enabling your friend to have a proper meal at night, that can lead to episodes of Hypoglycemia (Low blood sugar level) at night, leading to excessive sweats. Keeping some sweets or chocolates near the bed at night will help
