What Causes Excessive Nausea While Treating GERD?

My 20-yr old daughter has been experiencing daily nausea for about 6 weeks, since she got back from Mexico. So far, we have done an ultrasound, endoscope, colonoscopy, and a biliary scan only to find that she has irritation caused by GERD and Barrett s esophogus caused by the continued irritation. She is loaded full of medications for both the acid reflux and nausea, but nothing is helping. She is losing weight from not being able to eat, cannot sleep, cannot work. What else can we do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The cause of excess nausea can be part of drug resistance, gastric mucosa unresponsiveness or others. As the best of the PPI and GERD medications are already consumed, I would add following for better recovery:
- Taking liquids in sessions to prevent nutritional imbalance
- Deep breathing exercises
- YOGA and meditations
- Sleep maintenance of 7 hours
- Protein supplements as powder formulas
- Multi vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants
- Avoid stress
- Avoid smoking, recreational drugs or alcohol if consuming

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
