hi. i ve been having excessive gas for a while now and it only seems to get worse. a year ago i went to a doctor when i had an anal fissure who said i should simply take gas-x when needed- even if that meant taking it every day. now i have trouble sitting for more than 30 minutes without passing gas. i am also burping more than usual - especially when i have a bowel movement. what do you think is going on and what should i do?
Hello I share your concern. Lot of gas might be caused by Aerophagia means swallowing air due to use of carbonated drinks, beer, smoking, ill fitted denture. Other reasons like indigestion, acid peptic disease due to stomach hyperacidity, spicy food , liver or gall bladder disease I would advise you to identify any of these factors and try to avoid it I would advise you to take pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs with antacids for 7 to 10 days Avoid fatty fried spicy and junk food Have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables
If it doesn't subside than you should consult a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy or ultrasound if need be. Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for follow up wishing you good health Regards
