What Causes Enlarged Spleen?

I have had a dx of splenomegally and autoimmune hypothyroidism for 3 1/2 years.My spleen is currently so enlarged that I am able to feel it and have tenderness and a heavy sensation in that area. My legs have been aching for more than a month also! I have a normal CBC with diff. I m wondering if this is connected to my autoimmune disease or if I should have another scan to take a look at my spleen size. Very concerned!

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Autoimmune hypothyroidism may be associated with signs or symptoms of other autoimmune diseases. Less-common associations include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

SLE can have splenomegaly in 15 % of cases as hematological manfiestation.

Felty's syndrome ( the clinical triad of neutropenia, splenomegaly, and nodular RA) is seen in less than 1% of patients of RA.. It typically occurs in white patients in the late stages of severe RA. That is not in your case.

You better go for ANA (Antinuclear antibody test) as screening test for SLE.
