What Causes Elevated Systolic Blood Pressure Levels?

My mother is 76 years old and is in very good health, exercises regularly and eats healthy foods most of the time. Her blood pressure has been around 120s to 140s (systolic) in recent years, but her bp has recently started spiking randomly in the evening up to 180 systolic and even over 200/systolic. What could be causing this all of a sudden ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to the health care magic

Your mother having sudden rise of blood pressure

This is not normal, and secondary cause for hypertension should be ruled out

Kidney disease, psychological, cardiac causes ruled out first here

For that investigate with urea, creatinine, anxiety history and EKG

If specific cause found than treated accordingly

And she needs to start proper antihypertensive medication if not taking

Take care

Hope this will help you
