Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Bilirubin And Albumin Levels?
My 17 yo son started showing signs of jaundice-only in his eyes about 4 months ago. He’s had blood tests done several times in the last 6 weeks. His albumin and indirect bilirubin have been slightly elevated. With a spike several weeks ago that corresponded to a high EBV nuclear ab level. Outside of occasional fevers and some tiredness, he doesn’t have other symptoms. I tend to treat my kids based on how they act not necessarily by symptoms. But I’m not sure how concerned I should be.

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hello,
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis (IM). The disease has a good prognosis; almost all people with IM recover completely. The mainstay of care includes adequate rest, hydration, analgesics and antipyretics. But some people may have long term of complications such as tiredness, fever, hypersomnia, joint pain etc. Tiredness and fever will resolve on its own and may take up to 6 month. The only concern is the patient should not participate contact sports until complete resolution of symptoms or ultrasound confirmed normal spleen size.
I hope I have answered your question. Please, feel free to ask me more in HCM if there is anything else you need to know.
Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
