Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had blood work show a slightly elevated TSH level (4.37) but I had no symptoms. My doctor prescribed 50mcg levothyroxine daily that I started last week. Since I started taking the med I have had difficulty concentrating, feeling disconnected and occasionally trouble with forgetting (even writing this I ve had difficulty). This is 100% not like me, it is affecting my work (I m an office manager) as I can t stay on task. It is always at its worst about 3 hours after I take the med. I spoke to my doctor who recommended I stop taking the medicine and follow up in 2 weeks. I didn t take it this morning and it is somewhat better. Could this possibly be from the medicine over correcting the thyroid problem? Also, how long does it take to clear from my system?
Since the symptoms started after starting the medication then interrupting it is a reasonable step, while those symptoms may have other causes this should be considered first. The TSH is only slightly elevated in any case. As for how long it stays in your system it varies depending on your metabolism but on average about a week.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
