What Causes Elevated TSH Levels?

I have had an increase of TSH starting 62 in 2012, then to 90, then to 119 and now 129 in 2015. My Endo Dr has ordered all kinds of blood tests. All have come back in the middle of normal range except for the Tyroid Stimuating Hormone now at 129. I had a neuclear test showed nothing. Calcium, phosphorus, blood test all normal. Dr. Wants me to see a surgeon, But I do not want want too for no reason. Scared because it is close to arteries and my esophagus and vocal cords. At 67 1/2. I am not excited about this operation. I had successfully done back surgery 12/2014. And Gastric bypass in 5/2009. I take lots of supplements and I am healthy ! My question is why do I need surgery on my Thyroid, if all these tests are normal ? ?

Thanks for posting yur query to HCM .
First I want to know the level of your T-3 and T-4 hormone.

As TSH is responsible for their secretion from thyroid gland .Thyroid Surgery is no required in such a case as in this condition thyroid is poorly functioning and to stimulate secretion of thyroid hormone TSH level increases .TSH is secreted from Pitutory gland not from thyroid .If you had any thyroid scan send me the report of that also then i will suggest you treatment .

take care .
